The Embassy of France in Ukraine inaugurated in 2009 a cycle of annual international summer schools in Ukraine. The first school on “Studying Memories of Central and Eastern Europe” was held in Uman in July 2009. The school was co-sponsored by the Embassy of Poland in Ukraine, the journal Ukraina Moderna, the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, the Centre franco-russe de recherche en sciences humaines et sociales in Moscow, and the Pavlo Tychyna Pedagogical University in Uman. Dominique Arel, of the Chair of Ukrainian Studies, participated as an invited faculty.
The Second International Summer School, on “Approaches to Post-Soviet Transformations” took place in Dnipropetrovsk on 5-9 July 2010. The School was once again organized by the Embassy of France in Ukraine, in partnership with the Chair of Ukrainian Studies. the Doctoral School of the University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, the journal Ukraina Moderna, the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales [EHESS] in Paris, the Centre franco-russe de recherches en sciences humaines et sociales in Moscow.
The Organizing Committee is comprised of Guillaume Colin (Embassy of France in Ukraine), Anna Colin Lebedev (EHESS), Dominique Arel (Chair of Ukrainian Studies), Alain Blum (EHESS), Andrij Portnov (Ukraina Moderna) and Mychailo Wynnyckyj (Kyiv-Mohyla Academy).
